farmer_ben
thanks western , if a shell had spun would it still have oil pressure ?
western
probably have a lower pressure,
mmgemini
Like Ralph says. Most likely yes but lower. I'll bet you ten bob the oil pump has spun on the crank. The oil pump will provide a pressure of 3>4 lbs still lubticating the engine for a long long time before the oil light goes out. We did well over 50 miles when the gauge dropped but the oil light stayed on until well after the gauge shewed nearly zero.
farmer_ben
ive fitted a new oil pump ,pressure releif valve ,pressure sender and oil filter ,i ran it for 5 mins took off the filter and it was dry so filled it up and still no better :-(
Phil Hancock
As your filter was still empty after 5 minutes that is proof that the oil pump is NOT PUMPING.
mmgemini
As your filter was still empty after 5 minutes that is proof that the oil pump is NOT PUMPING. Thank you Phil I've said than from the beginning but nobody wants to take any notice of what I've said. I wonder if he primed the oil pump ? western
no instruction in the 300tdi workshop manual to prime the oil pump prior to fitting it to the engine, only V8 oil pumps need priming
mmgemini
Isn't there ??? I didn't have any instructions when I had to do mine. I just made sure that there was oil in the pump. Or was this one fitted dry ? It the filter hasn't go any oil THEN Oil strainer, assuming oil in sump, is blocked Oil pick up pipe blocked. Air leaking at pick up pipe at "O" ring where the pick up pipe enters the block. OIl way from oil pump to filter blocked. From those. Oil pimp "fingers" broken or not fitted to crank correctly Nose of crankshaft "rounded" not allowing the oil pump to turn. Any more ? ?
