mmgemini
Some of you may remember, some time ago I had problems with the rear door lock. The rear door lock is not repariable according to Land Rover. So I drilled the rivets out and stripped and put the lock back together. One spring wasn't right but I could still lock the door. On our last trip the lock stopped working, I didn't fancy another go at it as I had another lock without a barrell and I fitted that. That also started to play up. Never one to throw things away the original lock was still on the back of my workbench Collecting some padlocks from a locksmith I asked if he could fix the original lock. Collected lock yesterday and fitted it this morning...All hunky dory.....got a lock that works again. The cost was mininimal, a lot less then a new lock from Land Rover.... dave88sw
In my experience the only thing that breaks is the little torsion spring that holds up the locking tab, there is now a company on ebay selling the springs (£5 a pop which is a bit much for a tiny spring) but they do the job just fine. As you say you just drill out the rivets and it comes apart, i put mine back together with countersunk bolts
