Speakers and Headunit - What Brand

I know this has come up before on here (lost my login) but does anyone have any 'cheap but effective' brand suggestions or tips for speaker and headunit combos?

Will most speakers work with most headunits, or do you have to match the speaker to unit a bit? IM not after high fidelity sounds but obviously with a fair bit background noise to compete with whatever I buy will need to push out a fair bit of noise without sounding to awful in the process!

I have read about underseat subwoofers on past threads, but don't expect the budget to stretch, although It might go to a second hand Fli Sub or similar?

FLI speakers are fairly good mid range speakers. A set if small ones to replace the original landrover ones, some tweeters on top of the dash and some 6x9 in the back will make something half decent. If you can stretch to a 4 channel amp to power them - even better.

As for head units - as long as it has amp-out, 3.5mm aux in and mosfet power - it will be fine. Unless you spend ALOT, most of you hard earned is wasted on 'features' and pointless goodies, like flashy pop out displays etc

Funny we are having one of those in the new Disco, main reason for it is to negate the need for a separate satnav as you can put what ever disc in it you want, I think it is a good price too at 175 euro and it has all of the features you have mentioned, can't remember the brand though!

Def agree on amp, but wouldn't bother with a big sub just some quality 6x9s, sub just takes up space and most of mine in a Landy get smashed by something landing on them or being shoved against them.

Only good piece of advice I can really give is to invest in some high quality acoustic matting to insulate the cabin from the noise outside, makes the whole drive more pleasant and not just for the radio too....

And as mensioned, just about any head unit thats got high and low pass filters, and a way of using your phone/mp3 player with it.

If you PM me I can get that lot a tad cheaper from a friend of mine.
