ejparrott
1 would normally be power in, after that a meter can tell you which terminals are live when. I would have expected bigger terminals for the main power in, but that doesn't seem to have them, thats perhaps something to do with the modernisation of electrics, like thinwall cable

Kierran.M.110
there is two heavy wires one is brown and one is brown with a red trace. i do have a connecting wire which converts the large wire size to the terminal size on the ignition switch. i do have a heavy white wire and 3 smaller wires which are white, one has a red trace one has an orange trace and one has a black trace, most people i speak to have the igntion switch that is black and has the 5 terminals, cheers for the replys
western
plain brown is 12v feed direct from battery brown/red trace is the old TD engines glowplug feed no timer relay. plain white is ign switched live feeds white/red trace is starter motor feed white/orange trace is air condition motor feed [if fitted] again ign switch controlled white/black trace is 12v feed to fuel stop soleniod on Injection pump. ejparrott
yup, sounds exactly like the TD wiring I was replacing with TDi wiring the other week.
Kierran.M.110
cheers for that western, just have to find which terminal each one goes, i cant seem to get any reading when switched with a multimeter though.

Kierran.M.110
will do, it looks like a 300tdi ignition switch but not sure if it is though

Kierran.M.110
finally i have got the engine to turn over but had to take all black tape/conduit of the loom to find the right wires but the wire coming from the starter changes colour in the middle of the loom to a large white with red trace this wire then goes into a relay and when the correct wires are connected to the ignition nothing happens. when i by-pass this realy and extend this wire back to the igniton in replace of the small white with red trace the engine will turn over nicely, i cannot understand what this realy does, pic of the relay below (right relay)
western
thats the start relay, it allows thin wires to do the control in the cab & gives battery volts to the starter motor soleniod via the thicker wires, if it doesn't work try swapping it with the brake check relay next to it. western
also within the main loom, there are 2 multiplugs one is for petrol engined vehicles & 2nd for diesel engined vehicles, make sure you are connected to the corect one, wiring diagram will tell you what wire colours to look for. western
next to brake servo where the loom joins to engine & chassis looms,
Kierran.M.110
there was only one connector and nothing that would fit into it
western
strange there aren't any empty plugs, my 110 is a 89 too, what wiring diagrams are you using LR or Haynes ??
Kierran.M.110
haynes they dont seem to show much but then i dont realy know what im lookin at when it comes to wiring diagrams. there is one spare connector and nothing that will connect to it. i had a go at swapping the relay and no luck, i also found another relay in the garage and tried that and no luck, it is ready to fire up once i fit the exhaust and put in diesel but i dont really want to do it without the electrics being right. Kierran.M.110
it also doesnt help that wire colours change from the engine back into the loom from when the engine was changed
western
I'll add the wiring diagrams I use tomorrow, it's just a map really, the colour codes can be treated like bus routes from the start to the end,
