muddychris300tdi
Afternoon all, ok I have a Michelin inverter for the cigarette lighter in my disco, and I was woundering if I could run a work lamp off it for a short period.the inverter output is 240v 100w 50Hz, the light, max 500w but I have an energy saving bulb in it which says 185mA. have tried for all of 5 seconds just to test but I don't want to blow anything up. It worked but is it really ok to use? Chris
SORNagain
185mA at 240v is about 40W, so I guess it should be OK. The output of an inverter isn't quite the same as you get out of the mains, but if it hasn't blown up in the first few seconds it will most likely last forever! ChrisB
I've found lots of problems with fluorescent lights running on non sine wave inverters. Never been successful so far with four different inverters and lots of lamps. They fail to start usually, It won't damage anything by trying though. Mains LED should be fine!
