need4speed
One of the things i bought whilst refurbing the old heater was a new seal STC952. Its quite a substantial seal, and the old one whilst in tatters looked like it was attached to the heater body with self-adhesive. The new one, even though its a genuine part does not have any self-adhesive side. Can someone confirm that this is correct? If so how do i attach it to the heater? Will something like silkaflex suffice?
bluehaze
I used a bead of silicone.
mcc1979ian
I got the same part and found when fitted it dosent seal properly to the bulkhead but folds in on itself instead so i trimmed it back a little but still wouldnt say its correct. It just seems way too big.
Maverik
I just used some spray on impact adesive stuff seems to work quite well.
western
more likely stuck to the heater box due to age/heat & being compressed between bulkhead & heater casing. can't see any adhesive on this one http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/12745/2919/23/STC952-SEAL-HEATER-TO-BULKHEAD.html a smear of sealant would keep it in place during fitting & won't do any harm. mcc1979ian
When i removed the old one the seal fitted both round the inner and outer of the metal plate but the new one just fits the inner.

Retroanaconda
There is a rectangular "lipped" piece of metal which fits into the opening on the bulkhead, part number MUC4801. I believe it fits from the dashboard duct side though.

need4speed
Please bare in mind that the bit of metal James has highlighted is a plate - NOT A FRAME. It blanks the air flow
mcc1979ian
Ok maybe what im looking for is MTC6871 for the dash to bulkhead then maybe im tightening the heater to the bulkhead too much so maybe i best order another STC952 and fit it properly. Retroanaconda
No, it's a frame. With a lip round it. It fits into the aperture on the bulkhead, between the foam seal and the internal dash duct. I have no idea what it does or why it's there, but I thought it might be what you guys are talking about and perhaps someone had put it on the wrong side. I have one in my car that looks exactly like the drawing which is definitely a frame!
mcc1979ian
If i remember back to when i removed my dash 1st time around (approx 3 year ago) that frame was rotten so i just lobbed it out. But sure it had a lip of sorts.
