SPendrey
I needed to replace one of my bumper tail lights, so I ordered a pair of LED bulbs and figured they'd be a drop in replacement. Turns out the body of the bulb holder is the 12V+ and the, erm, pin is 12V-? The plug itself is keyed, so it is a one way fit. My question is why? All other bulbs/sockets seem to have the body being the 12V-!!
landroversforever
Wonder if its the same for all Discos or whether it was a factory cock-up?
SPendrey
Dunno, and of course it makes no difference to regular bulbs.
Guest
TD5 Defender is also that way so maybe it was a change that LR made along the way. Jason.
Boydie
Maybe just a stab in the dark but wouldnt the use of posative earthing improve the cathodic protection of the steel parts of the body ?

Why? there's nothing wrong with the bulbs, just that they are not manufactured for negative earth vehicles, either unsolder and modify (reverse) them your self, simple to do, or get ones with the correct polaraty. Remember if they are white LEDs they won't be as bright, as you will be placing a red or amber filter over the front of them.
SPendrey
I'm more curious about if this is by design, or just by chance. Given that the connector to the bulb socket is keyed to only fit one way there probably was a logical reason to have these sockets different to the others. Maybe what Boydie said?
