Hi all, new here so please be nice. I just bought a 1993 Discovery 1 , 200tdi. My problem is the handbrake doesn't work and the handbrake handle inside keeps being pushed up (like its on a spring)

Does anyone know the cause of this please.

Thanks in advance ;-)

I imagine either the cable or the expander is siezed. With my 110 it was the expander, You need to strip the handbrake and clean and lubricate all the mechanism. Or better still do what I did and throw it all in the scrap metal bin and fit an X-Brake.

It's probably just the cable. Unless they are regularly drowned in silty mud up to the doors, expanders rarely give problems these days. Even if it is the expander, if you strip it down and clean it up and lubricate it, it will probably outlast the rest of the vehicle before it gives problems again.

So it turns out it was the cable.....it was pulled then got stuck ON.... oooops.

£15 new cable and bobs your uncle.

While my mechanic man was under there i had him change the steering damper which was 100% buggered and he noticed the full thing has been poly bushed up.

Great for me eh?

So my £800 Bargain Disco 1 really was a Bargain...Passed the MOT straight away with no advisories. Im a happy chappie :i-m_so_happy:
