Retroanaconda
No, I was watching the girl topless sunbathing to the right of the picture In Scotland? Don't be silly For what it's worth, 999 works exactly the same as 112 in this country. 112 is popularised as it's international as part of the GSM standard - therefore people visiting here or Brits abroad can use it and it will work. You can also use it in the USA or Australia as the GSM network will re-direct it to their emergency numbers (911 and 000 respectively). But this stuff about 112 having more features over 999 is silly (they are functionally identical) though it's a good way of making people remember the former number over ours - which is of benefit if they get into trouble abroad. Exactly! 911, 000, 999; 112, all can be dialled from a locked phone with no credit/ or own-network signal (these days even from a sim-less phone, as pointed out). But 112 will work in a lot more countries than any other! Worth noting that 112 in a lot of European countries will connect you to the Police, not the "Which Service do you require?" Switchboard that 999-phoning Brits will be used to.
Smego
You still need a signal for it to work, but like 999 it will search for any signal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1-1-
