Gromit
Since my first sony cd player died, I've been using a pooey PLU2 mp3 stereo. It's ok, but a bit naff, takes ages to cue up and skips sometimes and has no line in. As an alternative music source, I'd aquired a PC and built a linux mp3 jukebox that I was going to install in the LR, but I've since got a PDA with a 2Gb card which will do the same thing, plus sat nav etc. So, I need a CD player, that plays mp3 CDs and also has a line in for my PDA. Would be helpful if the CD player worked at 45 degrees in my cubby box. Must also be loud enough to overcome tyre drone, gearbox whine, engine farting, body rattle and screaming occupants. Anyone any recomendations? All the stuff I've looked at on Ebay looks a bit dodgy.
pugwash
i;ve got a pioneer- can't remmeber the model number, but it plays mp3 cds and has Aux in. Cost about £240 i think. It's blooming powerful, but i still use an amp for my 6x9s. works a treat.

None of the players in Argos seen to have a line in jack, although some do MP3. My iPod works fine through the line in jack.
jules
I had a sony MP3 which worked on a 45deg angle no problem same sort of money....
FridgeFreezer
JVC are good value, Sony are difficult to buy a bad one quality-wise but they do like to make life difficult with line-ins because they want you to buy a Sony line-in adapter and really don't like people sharing MP3's because they own a record company too. Kenwood come recommended by me mate Dave who is cleverer than a very clever thing and used to do pro-audio until he got distracted by mud Blaupunkt are just weird and german, Clarion are a bit naff IMHO. For a LR an el-cheapo one for <£100 might be a good bet, after all the sound quality is less important amongst all the noise in the cab, all you need is VOLUME! My Sony plays MP3 files and at an angle angle of 45 degrees or thereabouts. Can't remember the model number but I'm not sure if it is still made as it is 2 years old. It is 60 watts per channel and enough to drown out the 300 tdi engine and also the whine from the gearbox (if you turn it up really loud it nearly drowns out the whine from SWMBO too!! )
LandyManLuke
Another vote for Pioneer, mine sits at 45 deg and is plenty powerful enough to drive two 6x9s and two 100mm co-ax speakers without an external amp at defender hardtop required loudness! AJL
Had various sony CD players i think they sound tinny for me i dont think you can beat Alpine

JST
Blaupunkt (which i cant spell) no probs with them to date.
Andy
JVC here, plays at the silly angle 200discos have the stereo. its more like 70degrees than 45.
FridgeFreezer
I didn't say Blaupunkt were bad, I just said they were weird perhaps it's just me but their design/layout always seems to be off on a complete tangent to the rest of the world. A bit like if Citroen made stereos.
western
Mines a Kenwood KRC-194A radio cassette unit 4 x 45watt.
Mark90
Had a JVC one for about 5 years now been in my 90, then disco, then 110, always at funny angles and has always been fine, pumps out 4x45W which is plenty (although I am driving the 6x9's through an alpine amp just cos i had one given, but it was good enough before I put the amp in). It was about £120 5 years back. I would buy another cheap end JVC again. Halfords often have some on special offer at good prices.
V8 Freak
I'd like to add to this thread if I can by asking where people with normal 90/110's place their rear speakers if I may... Perhaps some pics too. I've got an Alpine something in mine presently and only front speakers sort of tacked on under the front dash. It's got separate cd changer whic is very slow, jumps etc.. It's got to go ! So I'll be following recommendations with interest.... Over the years I've had Sharp, Blaupunkt, Sony etc. All much of a muchness.... No recommendations on current technologu though I'm afraid ! Neil
headhunter
Alpine for me with a 6 disk changer, not bothered with mp3/ipod as yet. Plus a Genesis Profile Four amplifier that seems to suck more amps than the winch. Feeding 4 midrange 4 tweeters and 2 woofer speakers. Gromit
I'd like to add to this thread if I can by asking where people with normal 90/110's place their rear speakers if I may... Perhaps some pics too. I've got my rears in the trim above the small rear windows. After about a year, I decided they were too far away and added 2 up front, either side of the fuse box. Will try and take some night time pics.
Gromit
rear speakers: (I've curtains around the side and rear windows) fronts: bonnet release is vertical to allow it pass the speaker mount. There's just enough room to get at the fusebox and get my size 9s on and off the clutch.
western
my rear speakers are in the rear loadbay roof headlining facing down just forward of the small rear windows each side of the rear door, fronts in the normal standard location each end of the dash. V8 Freak
Gromit, thanks for the idea for placement of the rears... (And other peoples descriptions...) Well out of the way and pointing in the right direction ! Would save too much hacking in other roof lining areas.... May be another project to add to the growing list ! Can match you with the size 9's but bet I beat you big time on the body circumference !
LandyManLuke
rear 6x9s mounted behind bench seats in the back, fronts mounted in the headlining above the seatbelt bracket.
