Astro_Al
No Al, ….not comedy ………… that is my long considered ideal setup B) ……… it ought to be tough as old boots ……….. but like you say the Tremec Ford isn’t exactly a ‘shorty’But I’ll find a way of making it fit the application Ian Ah! No jokey you makey? Hmmm, well I thought hard and have the cross-section photos to prove it! Of course I had to cater for long Mog diff pinions (maybe now the above ragging from the delightful Mr DollythePITA makes more sense...?) - so you'd have some extra capacity there. I'm there with the Atlas - now sitting in my garage gathering dust (that's what defines progress, right? - number of parts collected?), and an NV4500. Nice and short. I'm also brewing a devilish ploy to reduce pinion length so that I too can have one as short as Jez's! (Just to make him feel better). But all that aside, I (being of sound mind and body) am bolting a Chevy LSx to the front - I think there is a typo in your 'ideal build' list? Somehow while your brain thought 'Chevy' your fingers typed 'Fart' 'Ford'... >"But I’ll find a way of making it fit the application " Brave words! Al. P.S. >"on top of that - remain devilishly stylish maintained by appearances in the top fashion shows as a catwalk model" - it's true - I have seen his acid-house-techno meets Metal-Mickey-catwalk-chic welding gloves, they truly are a thing of beauty! Jez - Christmas is coming and I WANT A SET !
jules
Bring it on builder boy... the violins are out and warmed up this year, no workshop, no money, no time work on shoot, earn favours, get barn to use, build barn into workshop (walls, ceilings, 1 1/2 tonnes of steel door, wiring, lighting etc) move carp thats scattered about the country in storage into workshop, build Car 1 then build Car 2, fulltime job on top of that, logisitics for 30 odd people in 5 countries to get them all in the same place 2000 miles away, build car 3, plan on car 4, and................... on top of that - remain devilishly stylish maintained by appearances in the top fashion shows as a catwalk model think you've got it tough? Im got a concert to give tonight after the brain surgery Im currently doing while typing this with a slightly bloody syringe in my mouth {I may have eaten the wrong mushroom at lunchtime} I can hear the violins on full poor me setting I know what you mean Jez Moss

Somehow while your brain thought 'Chevy' your fingers typed 'Fart' 'Ford'... No ..... I mean Ford .............. the 460 Super cobra (sometimes called the Jet) .......... 7.5L & 550ponies / 540+ ft/lbs straight out of the box .............. they have more tuning bits available than you can shake a stick at .............. a bit like its smaller brother really........ the 351W. Astro_Al
No ..... I mean Ford Ah! I see you really ARE that old - have they let you out for the day to give your carers some time off? Are you lost? Are you cold? Do you want a blanket? 550/540 from 7.5 ltrs??? They're just not trying! I hear the Fords have more limitations/'idiosyncracies' than the Chevies...? Especially the Gen IIIs / Gen IVs (whether or not you believe it qualifies as a new 'generation'). I hear too many grumbles from people who work on both engines to use a Ford... And this thread gives me an opportunity to make damn sure you know about it! Go on then - what else is in the secret receipe? Al.
Bull Bar Cowboy
The 460 was a crate race engine ……… expensive here but cheap as chips in the states……nothing draws me to it other than I have always liked big ford V8’s SBC’s are soooo last year ……….. but the 5.7L will give you anywhere between 250 and 350 ponies straight off the crate ………… My eventual choice will be based on availability Vs dosh at the time of purchase ……… the yanks are king when it comes to V8’s ……….. most of them are fine by me…. I been to see a 90 with the RR 4.4 in today ……….. a very nice job it was too …….. I was asked to help with getting the ecu to ignore all the bits that were missing .............b@ggers wouldn’t let me take pictures………… Ian

Hey Jules remebr at Swindon when we saw ones of thoses take off with the throttle jamed open and along with the Nitrus. Wow that went some and became a boeing when it took off. FridgeFreezer
Phew, came to this little thread a bit late (too busy MS'ing the Range Rover, took a whole 5 minutes this time ) so I'll be quick: 3 leaf fronts, 4 leaf rears, V8 with MS'n'S-E, 109" wheelbase so you can lay down in the back and windows in the roof so you can look at the giraffes. Retro is in dudes, as Shirley Bassey sang, "It's all just a little bit of history repeating" B)

dollythelw
Round two Warthog - sweet, I like that, do a drawing and then work out a spec sheet and work backwards from there - the more time you spend thinking and drawing (and thinking round problems) the less time it takes to fab, personally, I find its the easiest way to build and you end up with what you wanted in the first place B) John, you could lay down in the back of smart car, so a cart springed hurse?....... hmm, now theres an ide....... no, stop it, these voices, you know the ones that say "get the 9 inch....." more pills and they might go quiet?!?! and Shirley Bassett?? for gods sakes, the propellor heads version was much better....... mind you Richard Cheese...? are you bring the Lard re-mixes at the weekend? Nige - will you stop spouting sense in the axles thread, its unnatural and should be discouraged Will - why use lots of diffs when you can use 1................ think about it......... Astro_Al
the only thing thats stopping me running an LS is pennies Jez - I thought you had a Northstar secreted away??? Is it a shipping issue? At least if it's used you can get the cost of duty RIGHT down... If it's just shipping cost, it's a cheap source of some proper ponies... Al. dollythelw
Ive got one sat in Utah, but as is the way - cheap engine = expensive box, Im tempeted by the LS at the 6 speed manual is getable from Schrams...... Im waiting for some bellhousing info for the V6 supercharged, its a maybe but but turbo gets my vote for boony work as opposed to super (mud proof) which ends up taking me back to Cossies (need a lump and a gearbox and enough spare loot to glue them together), or....... V6 Isuzus, 3.2 litre 192 out of the crate normally aspirated but turbo friendly, 24 valve, all alli, design from the latter half of the 20th century..... or 3litre beemer diesel... money money money Jules, Im working on it - there are irons in the fire but my suspension bill is somewhere near " 'kin how much??" so if anything does come of it I dont know how much will be left for the suck squeeze bang blow aspect back to normal - shouldnt you be out digging holes or tarmacing drives? Mark90
or 3litre beemer diesel... As used in some of the Rally Raid Uk / Paul Round Desert Warriers. Derrick Edmondson had one out at the UAE Desert Challenge last year and F me did that go, big intercooler and fueling right up was chucking out more black smoke than the Kamaz trucks. Done alright at the Baja GB in it too. I guess Jules knows the truck from the BORC last year where Derrick was getting his license up to speed for the UAE DC. Speaking with Paul Round at the Baja GB it seems he's put a lot of time money into sorting the ECU etc to get the most out of these engines. Now looking at beefing up the rest of the transmission to stand the torque that they are developing.
