Cronus
Hello folks, I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if you could share some knowledge with me if you don't mind? The cable has snapped on the driver side window regulator. Are those repair kits on ebay up to the job for replacing it? Its an 03 TD4 Also are there any how to's on this site or online to help me out? Thanks
bobed90
Dont waste your money on the kit. I have fitted 2 now and both failed very quickly and they were not easy to fit either. Had no problems with a replacement unit i bought from paddocks.
tim_roberts
I fitted a cheap one from eBay last year and it's been fine so far. It's on the passenger side so doesn't get as much use as the driver's side. Fitting is tricky as you have to get the cable run exactly right and there's a fair bit of tension in the cable when it's correct. The Haynes book covers the basics of getting the mechanism in and out of the door, but not much more than that. It's just a question of studying the old cable before you remove it and common sense. Cheers. I'll take plenty of pics and video's of the setup before I remove the original.
EggNChips
Depends on the kit. Some are just lengths of wire that you glue a nipple on and they're absolute b*llocks. The ones that are replacement cables correctly terminated are pretty good.
dbartle9
I went through two cable kits before resorting to a full genuine assembly (at non genuine price from eBay). To be fair the kits seemed Ok at first, but didn't last longer than week or so each. In future I will just go for the replacement assembly - my time is worth more to me than the cost save. FridgeFreezer
I fitted an eBay repair kit some time ago (months) and so far it's lasted much longer than the Britpart mechanism did (2 weeks).

Any chance of identifying the kit your bought FF?
EggNChips
Look for ones that come from Turkey or Greece or somewhere like that, they are actually excellent. Used the kits many times and well happy with them, much better than a cheap patern regulator.

Edwardcraney
I have fitted a couple of the stainless wire kits, when fitting it make sure the plastic cog that the cable runs on isn't chewed up as this is what caused the kit to fail on mine, I much prefer the idea of the stainless wire as the only reason the units fail is the original wires corrode either snapping or stands snapping and jamming in the sleeving.
