miketomcat
The defender wiper system is hateful and antiquated so I wanted to use a modified discovery 1 system as I did on the tomcat. Que agro and head scratching see the tomcat system bolted through a single sheet of steel.... So of coarse the ibex has a bit of 25mm x 50mm box plus the Ali skin. The disco 1 spindles are to short however the disco 3 system has nice long spindles is to wide the crank arm is in the wrong place and the motor won't plug into the loom. Right then take one disco 3 system cut the motor and frame off remove spindles press off crank arms cut a new circlip grove where the arms were and weld the arms on the back end of the spindles. Next cut and bend a new frame to go between the spindle housings bolt into car and shorten one push rod. Finally take the disco 1 frame and motor ditch the rest, adjust frame to suit and bolt to the modified disco 3 bit and hey presto one new wiper system. Also my new props have arrived after Xmas I had given up chasing and was looking for another company then out of the blue I got an email from d&f say your props are in build they'll be shipped on Wednesday. MECCANO
Nice and straight forward then! Will you be building a custom dash to clear the wipers? Looks great!
miketomcat
I've got a custom dash that I made a mould for when I built 45. if you look back through here there's a picture of it though I need to alter it for the ibex as it was designed for a defender. landroversforever
That's a looooooooooooong prop!
muddy
Are they the 95mm ujs Mike? Do they class as wide angle? Nice to see your props arrived I'm still waiting on my bits from D&F Will.
miketomcat
The rear prop is 1.2m fully closed. I went for standard land rover sized uj's (not wide angle) on the basis of prop lengths. The front prop is 750mm so neither are short and I don't have any lift. Mike
miketomcat
Well after much debate I decided that I would just get some 33" bfg's on modulars. So as you can see that's exactly what I've bought. .....not. Mike Edited July 17, 2017 by miketomcat
Soren Frimodt
Uhh a great looking combo (except for the colors) should look very nice under your Ibex Are they 35"?
miketomcat
Yeah 35/12.50x15 I quite like the colour but not sure how it will look so going to leave them for now. Mike
Nigelw
How do you think your gearing is gonna cope with 35s? Thought you were running the Disco running gear?
landroversforever
Nice one mike! Genuine Mach 5s?
miketomcat
I'm running disco gearbox but defender transfer box (1.41:1) though if need be I'll swap it out for an early 110 transfer box (1.66:1). Yes they are gen mach 5's. Mike
FridgeFreezer
Please promise me you'll paint those wheels before taking the truck out or swap them with TSD
miketomcat
It'll be fine just remember I had a grey disco with orange bumpers etc.? Mike

miketomcat
Got some odds and sods sorted the props and td5 hand brake are on, throttle cable is fitted and because I've had a rubbish week I've glued the top hinge covers on to make me feel like I'm moving forward still. The other job I've got done is modifying a discovery stalk set to fit the defender column this has involved opening up the diameter of where it fits on the column with a die grinder. I just need to get a steering wheel boss now to check the self cancel and how the cover will fit. Mike
Daan
Good progress; you think it will pass the IVA test with the bead lock wheels, or are you going for a set of 'test' wheels? Daan
miketomcat
Going to use test wheels to save buggering with the Speedo at the moment. I may swap the tyres out for 33's as I think the gearing may be to high, swapping the t-box doesn't change low range and I can't afford crown wheel and pinion change. miketomcat
Finally managed to get to my dad's to do some machining. Cutting some rebates into the back of the fairlead so it fits snug to the cross member. And two spacers to fit either side of the chassis pulley A. To stop any slop and B. To stop the rope getting jammed between pulley and mount. Hopefully my dad is going to do the other bits as I ran out of time today then I can get the winch system buttoned up. miketomcat
I have now fitted all the bits dad made. Chassis pulley. Rear pulley. All finished. The start of the air intake that will marry up to the snorkel. Mike Edited July 17, 2017 by miketomcat

In this set up they use a snatch block mounted through the rear cross member where as I have a permanent pulley. miketomcat
More pics of the air intake. Mantec snorkel wing fitting matches up nicely. And an adapter to put a hose onto the heater for a fresh air intake from the grill. Mike. Edited July 17, 2017 by miketomcat

Mike Ahhhh, so the pulley is the one where the rope disappears inside the chassis rail. how do you get the rope along it? I assume the inside has a tube.
