Aragorn
I picked up a rear tub at the weekend, and i'm looking for some thaughts on refinishing it. I'm thinking something along the lines of stonechip/underseal for the underside/wheel arches, sprayable bed liner for the inside of the tub. The external paint itself will be the same as the stuff i'm using elsewhere on the landrover, so that bits fine. Can anyone recommend any products for the underside/internal areas? I'm thinking i could use something like U-Pol Raptor on both the underside and the interior bed? Anyone used anything similar?
Boris113
Schutz underseal seems to get good reviews, in hindsight I wish I had used it! I used this stuff, because it was cheap and could be brushed on, but it is messy and never fully drys. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_179607_langId_-1_categoryId_165594 There is a good thread here about bed liner: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=76163 and this is useful too: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=75760
Fatboy
Hi, I've just done exactly the same job and renewed the floor on my 110 tub. Riveted the floor to the arches without the crossmembers in place. Flash banded the floor, then bolted the crossmembers in using countersunk bolts. Made a hatch above the fuel pump on the tank. Gave the arches a good clean and Raptor coated the whole lot. I've fitted it with Flashband on any interface areas. The inside of the body is also Raptor coated, it dries really quickly and hard - be interesting to see how it wears. Aragorn
I've used that non drying stuff before, and defo dont want that. Nightmare for working on the car, and dirt etc tends to stick to it. Read that thread about the Raptor, but it doesnt really say anything about using it.
Aragorn
Fatboy; is flashband the sticky back tar stuff? What do you mean by Interface areas?
Fatboy
Yup. B&Q sell it or you can get it even cheaper on EBay. Make sure surfaces are clean and if you go over it with a little roller for wallpaper seams and a hot air gun, it gets a cracking bond. Interface areas was just a term I was using to describe where components bolt on or together. For example, I used it as a barrier to prevent electrolytic corrosion between the alloy floor and steel mounts, the steel seatbelt stiffeners etc. The Raptor stuff comes in a 1 litre Schutz style can with seperate hardener and the kit I bought also came with a gun to suit. Tip the hardner in, spray on generously then evacuate the area, high on fumes. Return following day and it is nice and dry.
Aragorn
Cheers. I've ordered a raptor kit from ebay, £80 for four cans plus gun. Do you think that'll be enough to do the underneath and inside?
