Jocklandjohn
Has anyone got any experience of these? They look like a normal LR replacement (Paddocks) and the price is reasonable. Seems a good alternative to original ones. Any thoughts?
JeffR
In general, Bilsteins are usually bloody good shocks. If it wasn't for the fact that I've just replaced mine I think I'd be placing an order....
dantastic
I've been running the bilstens for a year and a half now. Great shock for the road, very good handling. Too stiff (and short) for offroad. Don't get their steering damper tough - it's a gas damper and I found it was impossible to live with.
dantastic
Actually, I have the Gas bilsteins and not that exact model - sorry!
Aragorn
I've been running the bilstens for a year and a half now. Great shock for the road, very good handling. Too stiff (and short) for offroad. Does that suggest they're shorter than the standard landrover dampers?
Jocklandjohn
Thanks chaps. They look ok and with Bilstein's reputation I doubt they'll be bad and given their scale of production I expect will offer reasonably good value for money. So I've placed an order. I'll pop back and give a verdict once they're fitted and I've run around on them. Cant be any worse than the kangaroo hopping about I'm currently experiencing when I hit anything resembling a ripple in the tarmac!
Big.Mike
Hi All, Just to tag on to the end of this post... Which bilstein shock is best for overlanding? Or should I go for the Terra Firma TF124? Cheers, Mike

Cheers, Mike For overlanding i'd go for either Land Rover oem shocks or the Koni Heavy Trak's, nothing else.
Big.Mike
For overlanding i'd go for either Land Rover oem shocks or the Koni Heavy Trak's, nothing else. Go on then, I've got a 2" lift, what Koni do I need? Also, do I need axle stands and a trolley jack to change the shocks?
vulcan bomber
just koni heavy traks +2. Paddocks were cheapest when i bought mine. You shouldnt need much more than spanners and some stilsens to change them.
dantastic
A trolley jack and a high lift is the ideal combination. Then you can easily change shocks quickly. If the shocks have been on for a while you are likely to have to take the turret off as well. It is pretty common to snap at least one turret ring bolt. So it's a good idea to have a frest set of turret rings at hand.

(With the plastic not metal tops) Cheers, Mike
vulcan bomber
Mine (with the plastic tops) are adjusted with a spanner shaped object with 2 pins sticking out.
Big.Mike
Cheers for that, found the instructions in a fold of the box! My shocks must have been completely knackered, feels like a completely different motor! Going to do the fronts next pay day...
Jocklandjohn
No go on the Bilstein B4 Blacks I'm afraid. Despite Paddocks showing 'in stock' they're not, and not getting any more. Back to the Armstrongs then I reckon.
