Slipping sound followed by rattling with TC light burning

Recommended Posts

My TD5 (2004) makes strange slipping like sounds when accelerating. Driving away from standstill adds the rattling sound with TC light burning. Could this be the ABS taking control due to damaged sensor or something?

It started after a tight turn (maximum steering angle), but I can't link this to the problem. In time it is getting less noisy...but we all know what that could mean.

Any ideas. I will deactivated ABS to see if this solves the issue.

Is it possible you might have damaged a CV on the tight turn - or maybe a halfshaft? If the TC thinks it is slipping I think it has to be a CV outer turning faster than the ECU thinks it ought to, maybe partially seized/gripping. Either way I'd investigate, starting at the front.

I doubt the cv is slipping as such, but if it does, locking centre diff would stop it happening.

Get it plugged in and faults read, It's most likely a sensor issue.

I've a dodgy rear right sensor that's tried to lock the wheel a couple of times. On the to do list before I re-tax and use it again.

Update:

The rattling has disapearred and shortly after this the slipping sound. The only thing I did was cleaning the sensor area's on the front wheels, but this can't be the solution.

When cleaning I noticed the swivel cap was rusty and also received a tip to solve this (stc3435 lubricant).

If it (rattling and/or slipping) comes back I will take apart the problem area.

Thks for your responses.
