Boris113
I'm a little confused about the headlights that are on my 1989 90 and wondered if someone could shed some light on the problem (no pun intended). I'm looking to change all of the bowls, rings and gaskets for new ones because the current ones are past their best. However on taking the lights out, it seems it has 2 different types. On one side the headlight bowl is a solid plastic one like this one: http://shop.challenger4x4.com/land-rover-defender-90110--series-headlight-bowl-kit-306-p.asp The other side has a metal one, that has a large opening the rear. The link shows a similar design, but not in metal. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Headlight-Mounting-Bowls-BLACK-Rim-Defender-90-110-/230536950031?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35ad12b10f Are there any advantages to either type and which should I go for? The current lights/bulbs have been changed for halogen versions if it makes a difference. Thanks, Harry
mmgemini
My Defender came with the open back bowl. I find it easier the change the headlight bulb when one goes. Yep it's a fiddle but IMO better than taking the light unit out.
Retroanaconda
I replaced my headlamps last year and used the open-backed bowls for the same reason Mike points out, access for changing the bulbs. Means all I have to do is lean into the engine bay, remove the plug and rubber cover, then the bulb comes straight out.
western
I fitted the full bowl plastic type to my 110 are few years ago, not had any problem with them.
