studmuffin
Managed to rearrange the front of my 90 TD5 this morning when a Transit stalled in front ( no excuses) Cannot see any serious structural damage but will get checked after work. I may repair myself as my insurance excess is, as per normal a bit hefty. If so---- Need new standard bumper ( non winch but has A frame for spots which is undamaged - just 1 spotlight broken ) Need new N/S side wing panel Need new N/S front panel ( sidelight glass broken) Where can I get the best deal other than Craddocks? I am situated in Bridgnorth Shropshire so closeish also to Staffs/West Mids. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks Barry
eds
Try paddocks for cheap stuff but will probably be britpart which is fine if you know it is non essential stuff like a bumper or wing. If you want a choice of manufacturers then try lrdirect for good choice.

studmuffin
Thanks very much for good advice everybody. The repairers have looked and assure me that there is no damage to the chassis. Phew! Have used the fork lift and a lifting chain to pull out the bumper damage and have decided just to replace the side light glass so its legal and its still driveable and then I will wait for the repair quote. Looking at prices I can save max. about £200 on the excess if I use a plastic outer wing and do it myself. I am thinking that the insurers will mark it against me anyway next renewal, so its a close call and the repairers will use LR Ali panels etc... Will wait and see. First prang in nearly 30 years--- Bugger!!!! Thanks Barry
mmgemini
Have you thought about second hand parts ? You might strike lucky and get a correct colour wing
Ed Poore
I've got a bumper sat unused in the shed.
studmuffin
I've got a bumper sat unused in the shed. Thanks so much. That is a very kind offer. I dont want to sound in any way ungrateful but can I get back to you when the repairers tell me the worst. Also Mike - second hand is another good idea if they come via an LR forum member. To be honest I do worry about E bay. When I went to the repairers today they had a 60 plate Puma 90 just dropped off with both doors missing!! One more gutted owner! studmuffin
Thanks everyone for your kind help. Due to my lack of up to date experience I stupidly decided to let the insurers fix it. Big mistake. I do not intend to bore you all with the depressing waste of my life/ lack of a repair anywhere near the horizon soon, but I would willingly prefer to jab myself in the eyeballs with sharpened pencils than deal with these people ever again! Is there any insurance company left who have their own claims department rather than a claim company who acts for multiple insurers? dave88sw
I've always liked the NFU, they may not always be the cheapest but making a claim really is easy and they don't mess you around.
studmuffin
Hi everyone - am still waiting for Sureterm/Enterprise to book it in for repair!! They sent out an " Autorestore " white van man on 25th April who took lots of photos and said that he couldnt repair it roadside because there was a broken light and he is not allowed to fix electrics. Then they sent another guy to my house on Friday 29th April to take more photos and arrange the repair. Heard nothing so I rang them and they said that their " surveyor " couldnt make a complete assessment from the photos and asked me to take the Landy to one of their sites. I said that I could only take it outside normal working hours so why not pick it up for repair and drop off the courtesy car. Heard nothing so rang today to be told that they were still trying to get the go ahead from my insurers! This is a relatively small repair and they are still useless!! Have taken up Yoga and strong drugs to reduce my blood pressure. Barry
CwazyWabbit
No wonder things cost so much ..... two people sent out to take photos and another one in the office doing a survey .....
studmuffin
Incredible isnt it? --- Thought you may like an update. Its because most/ all the insurers seem to use claims companies so that they can cut back their direct staff. The extra cost goes on everyones policies I guess. The Autorestore man had a complete paint match/spray system with heat lamps in his van to paint panels / damage outdoors. Thats going to be a top finish eh? Sorry -- must dash and get more drugs
tacr2man
these guys are just round the corner from you , and have a pretty good range of stuff , found them very helpful inpast , (no other connection than as customer) http://www.skan4x4.com/
studmuffin
Thanks very much for the heads up. They are about 6 miles away from me and 3 miles away from where I bought my Landy and I never heard of them!! Unfortunately because I have made the claim I have to wait for these less than efficient chappies at Sureterm/Enterprise Insurance/ Autorestore and any other halfwits that they have instructed to deal with my claim to sort it. In future I will be talking to Skan and probably fixing it myself. Meanwhile I need to just keep calm, breath deeply, and mainline cider or brandy till it gets sorted
studmuffin
Just a little post-script. Got it back today from the repairers. 6/7 weeks is pretty reasonable when you realise that you are dealing with a system which is loaded against the customer Still -- Got the old girl back looking not too shabby Cheers Barry
western
good to read,, just stay away from transits
studmuffin
Thanks - its great to have my Landy back. I can only think of 3 definites in life: 1. Death 2. A nurse 3. A Transit being exactly in the wrong place at the wrong time Cheers Barry
