zoltan
Looks like no-one will be happy with what the Council have done here. The report is from a source with an obvious bias so bear with it http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/item.php?id=68011
dirtydiesel
I'd be happy enough just to be able to use it again. I used to quite enjoy eating some lunch by the stanage pole, I wonder how long until they lift the tro?
James90
End of next month according to trail wise. I was driving a metallised BOAT at the weekend, it was so smooth and mundane two huge speed bumps had been constructed.... The mind actually boggles sometimes.... David Sparkes
Thanks for the reminder, I'd better go and look at Trailwise. This is what I stopped here to post: I have spoken to a DCC RoW Officer today, Friday 26th April 2013.Although the job isn’t his direct concern he obviously did some research before responding to my phone message. Long Causeway has been closed completely to all users for 4 weeks, while they have been working on site.It will be closed for all next week, say until Friday 3rd May, but possibly will remain closed into the following week, say until Friday 10th May 2013.Whenever the closure comes off, it will be to revert to the width restriction TRO, so after 10th May motorbikes will be OK, 4x4s will not. This tranche of work has been to lay additional drains and a new surface from Dennis Knoll up to the start of the revetment (retaining wall). They have not been working on the revetment, and I take that to mean they haven’t been working on the track surface that is held up by the revetment. The width restriction has been extended to 31st March 2015, not because they think it will take that long, but because if they are going to the Secretary of State for an extension it makes more sense to go for a long one, (and take it off before the end date), than to ask for repeated short extensions. Please feel free to pass the above comments onto any other Forums you use. HTH, David Sparkes.
James90
Oh dear...lets hope they don't make it an easily accessible width and surface for a Transit tipper like they have on other lanes otherwise they'll have to worry about other types of environmental destruction. GBMUD
easily accessible width and surface for a Transit tipper like they have on other lanes otherwise they'll have to worry about other types of environmental destruction. Which would have the advantage of drawing attention away from legitimate 4x4 users - though they would probably consider a permanent TRO to prevent rubbish being tipped... James90
More of a disadvantage in my opinion, after 10 years of leading groups of adults and children on foot and vehicle through several national parks, its plastic bags, tyres and general litter that certain people seem to leave behind that gets me much more than land erosion through legitimate use. People walking/driving off piste is also frustrating. I genuinely think that making lanes this smooth will be much worse, how long before we see Mondeos half way up Stanage because they fancied a picnic at the top, or to get closer to Crags for climbing etc etc
