Tetsu0san
Hi all I have a 200Tdi Discovery and I need to remove the timing chest in order to fix a water leak. I have just been in the shed and I have found 3 sets of engine gaskets for a 2.5D and 2 sets for a 2.5 petrol. My question is how similar are all of these blocks? I know the 300Tdi is quite different to a 200Tdi, but from what I can remember the 200Tdi, 2.5D and 2.5TD, and I think the 2.5 petrol look very similar indeed. Would I be able to use some of the gaskets in the sets I have so I don't have to go and buy more? I know the timing chest is different on a Discovery to a Defender on the 200Tdi, I can live with that but the gasket behind the timing chest where it bolts to the engine should be the same on both models? Any more information would be gratefully received.

Tetsu0san
Thanks for that information. I had a feeling I was on to a winner here. It pays to buy cheap stuff from Newbury, even if it doesn't obviously fit!
western
your welcome. IIRC the camshaft side covers [engine block right hand side] gaskets are common to all the 2.5 4 cylinder engine, but not sure if that includes the 300tdi engine. Tetsu0san
There is a little round gasket, looks like a black rubber washer which is missing from my gasket sets. I presume the 2.5 N/A didn't use it after all. Still, nice to have some spare gaskets!

Tetsu0san
Yeah, that is what I mean. It's not in my pack of gaskets. And according to the guide from white90 it is prone to leakage. I have one coming now anyway.
