I followed the advice gained here, Fitted a BIG battery, and after a lot of cranking - She fired-up.

Whoop Whoop !

celebration was short lived - next problem is the clutch wont work -I have no clutch at all, She has been standing for 6 months, was fine before that. Any advice welcome.

thanks

A couple of times (years apart) I have found that that the clutch fluid reservoir was empty for some reason, no leaks I could see though! Topped it up and pumped pedal furiously and all worked again after.

If you can't disengage it's possible it is stuck to the flywheel, in which case put it in low range first, start it up with some space about and throttle on/off with the clutch pressed until it releases, keep your hand on the ignition key to kill it in emergency ;)

If no drive at all, then check your transfer box levers and 4x4 selector, if all OK start looking for broken stuff...

Personally I found that a higher gear would crack a stuck clutch easier. I once drove for a mile in low 1st trying to free a clutch, ended up snapping a halfshaft. I gave up put it in 1st high drove off and it freed straight away.

It's a S1? so mechanical clutch...it's usually the tube that joins the cross-shaftout of the chassis to the

clutch release arm shaft on the 'box , the tube breaks out where the clevis pins are

..thats assuming it won't disengage to go in gear

The clutch is engaged and it won't disengage to go in gear

Sorry I should have made it clear that it was a Series 1, I just assumed because I was hogging the Series forum with ‘beginner’ type questions.

Knowing my luck – I shouldn’t risk snapping a half shaft – what other options do I have?

thanks

Take the floor and gearbox tunnel out so you can see the linkage move and you will see the bit I

mean , if it's just stuck to the fly wheel it should come free with use as described above , its highly

unlikely you will break anything doing that

cheers

Just to qualify my comment, I have a V8 in mine and foot brake on hard so it can break stuff. The first time a friend was told to do this by his boss he drove through a wooden wall in to his work place (also V8) :)

I havent started on the V8 yet (1989 110 pick-up) The Series II seems fine though - The Series one is the problem at hand.
