Tetsu0san
Hi all. I have just removed the timing chest from my 200Tdi and I am about to refit it. Should I copper grease the bolts or just put them in dry? I see that some had threadlock on, that is an obvious one but should I copper grease the ones that were on the verge of seizing? Also, a big thank you to white90 for his tech archive entry on how to do it. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=42950
mmgemini
What I do with the longer bolts is to copper grease the shank. Then I use thread sealant on the threads. Aparently the sealant is supposed to stop the threads seizing in....
Tetsu0san
When you say thread sealant, do you mean threadlock or something else? Although a lot of these bolts were dry they didn't have any threadlock evident on them. I will put copper grease on the shafts and threadlock on the, er, threads and although I don't intend to do this job again I like the idea that I have done it right. I hate bodge jobs.
