Tetsu0san
HI all I have an LT77 and an R380 sitting around and I was going to do a rebuild on one of them to replace the one in my Disco. I have been told that the R380 is a smoother gearbox but I have also been told that the LT77 is a more robust box. Basically the output shaft in my Disco is worn out so I want to replace it. The spare LT77 I have is also worn out but not quite as bad, and the R380 has a selector issue where is is very hard to get it into reverse, first or second. So which one would you advise that I rebuild/repair? I think I am leaning towards the R380 but only because of watching 'A 4x4 is born'. Aragorn
R380 is an improved LT77. Theres nothing more robust about the LT77, and later R380's have further upgrades still which makes them even stronger. I'd defo be rebuilding the R380 over the LT77.

FridgeFreezer
There's folklore about R380's because early ones had a mainshaft fault so there were a lot of failures and subsequent recall/redesign, but as above, the R380 is an improved LT77.
