WagonWheel
My one year-old TD4 had its first annual service a couple of weeks ago. It appeared to be fine until I experienced a judder at the weekend while doing about 50mph, which seemed consistent with a flat tyre. Pulled over, quick check of the tyres and all appeared fine. Started the car again and gingerly took it up to speed again....no judder! Went to the nearest garage and properly checked the tyre pressures and all were around 32psi apart from the rear drivers side which was 28. Pumped it up to 32psi and made a mental note to keep an eye on the tyre in case of a slow puncture. No recurrence of the problem until this morning, when I had to pull off the motorway due to another severe judder and was convinced that I had a rear wheel flat. Did another quick check of the tyres and no problem, started up again and judder gone....again!! In work now and will confirm tyre pressure later, but don't believe this is the problem. On another topic on here someone mentioned a similar problem and replacing the fuel filter?? Thanks for any help.
tp_123
Be very careful with this one I have seen a similar problem where a fairly violent judder at around the same speed was persistent from the rear of the vehicle. The rear diff exploded at 70mph on the motorway (not a nice experience and expensive), has the car been driven with mismatched tyres or excessively worn tyres? (this will cause greatly accelerated wear in the gearbox/diffs). If so check for oil leaks in all gearboxes and check the transmission oil level.
