TheBeastie
I got biffed in a car park ages ago - minimal damage but a rear corner chequer plate bit got mangled (the b**g*rs never leave a note!!) so hauled it off and thought nothing of it. Now my daughter wants me to take her to her wedding ceremony in The Beastie so have been furiously washing and polishing a vehicle that has never seen clean water before less it fell from the clouds. So I have knocked the mangled piece of chequer plate back into pretty good shape but most of the original black powder coat has flaked off. Cleaned up with a wire brush to remove flakes/underlying corrosion and any remaining black is on pretty solid. Is there any way I can coat it with black spray paint before rivetting it back on so that it looks a bit prettier? Does not bother me but would delight my daughter :-) Thanks Malcy

CwazyWabbit
You will need to prime it with an etch primer first or the paint will fall of any bare ali, I'm sure an adult will pass by soon and inform you how many other steps I have forgotten. EDIT: Seems Ralph is quicker than me
Guest
The only thing I would add is make sure you you give it a good degrease before the etch primer, thinners and a soft rag is good for as any silicone or other crud will stop the etch primer doing its job, when I painted the chequer plate on the trailer I gave it two coats of primer before the top coat. It also helps if you can get to both sides or rotate the piece otherwise you end up missing some of the ridges. Jason

Eightpot
Before you spend 20 quid at halfords, Might be worth checking the cost of a new bit of chequer plate?
