landroversforever
Asking this because I can't make my mind up either way! I have a large roll of open cell, sticky backed foam which would be perfect for the 90 if it wasn't open cell! (Cost me nothing ) Now if I line the roof of the truck with it, it it going to: 1) End up soggy as it collects the condensation? OR 2) Work perfectly fine up there as it will insulate the panel and stop the condensation from forming? If its going to not work, any ways of sealing it up? (slightly mad idea I'm sure!) It's no cost to me other than time, but is a bit of a faff getting the headlining out/in.
ajh
If you use it on the roof you can then apply a moisture barrier over-top; a 1/8" adhesive neoprene is nice. Open cell has uses but it needs a barrier layer (ideally in the centre between two layers of open) to provide the 'bounce' needed to reflect sound back into the damping material. Some use a lead divider; but those are usually used in boots or over transmission tunnels since they're heavy.
Maverik
After taking up open cell foam from verious trucks in verious places I wont ever be putting it back in a truck. I know it generally has better acoustic properties than closed cell, but if there is any moisture around... then its sure to suck it up and keep it. Not worth the hassle in my book. jbs
It's what if I remember correctly that the boot floor of disco's is covered with-hence why it never dries out enough to stop it rotting
