rovernut
Just read an article in one of the popular LR Magazines suggesting the addition of 2 stroke oil at a ratio of 1 part oil to 200 parts diesel. With the advent of low sulphur diesel it is suggested that this will lubricate fuel pump and injectors, leading to an enhancement of performance and fuel economy. They show a photo of the TD5 in tank pump and say that the main cause of this pumps failure is seizing up with the introduction of the oil helping to minimize this. Does anyone already use this (or ATF) and if so, does it work?
heath robinson
I've been doing this in my old LT35, on the say-so of a generally knowledgable friend, but I don't do enough miles in that to know if it helps... The engine runs perfectly, however since putting 2-stroke in the diesel, the diff's lost all it's oil, and all the wires to the back end have desintigrated and shorted out I know that's not really what you wanted to hear, but from what I read at the time I started doing it, it made sense to me. Boydie
Yes, since early 2000 the idiots in Canberra decided to legislate to include 10% ethanol in diesel fuel reducing the lubricational properties of the fuel but maiking it less smoky - so some sort of posative I'd guess. Anyway I add around 1% of 2 stroke in the fuel and it runs perfectly
LiamC
I assume that adding a bit of veg oil instead would have the same effect?
garrycol
I put in 200ml of mineral 2 stroke oil in my 2.7TDV6 RRS. The claims were less smoke, better fuel consumption, a quieter and smoother engine and lubrication of the injector pump. Well I have been doing it for over a year and the level of smoke is no different, the engine sounds the same, the engine is just as smooth as it has always been, and no difference in fuel consumption. That just leaves the lubrication of the injector pump - based on the other claims probably doesn't do anything but for the low cost of the 2 stroke oil I am still using it in case it does lube the pump and may just save it one day if I get a bit of water in the system. While some of the benifits may be questionable I have not found any negatives listed. Garry
