Not too big, not too small, a llovely old bus with bench seats in the back, four stretchers to kip on at shows etc if required, plentiful spares supply ....and the luxury of a heater!

Escape
Expensive at first sight, but when you consider it's the same engine/drivetrain as the XR4, it's actually a lot of car for the money. And very practical!

Lovely six pot lump, 4WD, big brakes, a bit prone to rot in the join above the cab, screen frame and rear doors but they could all be found or easily repaired. Substantial chassis and bumpers, few argued with it.

ThreePointFive
Wrong car, poor spares availability and no room for it, but other than that...! I am currently trying to convince myself a 3.0 V6 X-Type AWD is the Sierra's spiritual successor and a sensible daily.
Escape
Totally agree with that line of thought! When @FridgeFreezer let me borrow his X-type a few years ago I was very pleasantly surprised. Even looked at a V6 as a sensible car, but taxes are just too high in Bhellgium.
Popular Post ThreePointFive
They're great fun, not that fast but they feel (and sound) it and the handling is lively. The best part is that no one gives them a second look and everyone assumes you're 900 years old. The one I had my eye on has just disappeared, thankfully. That was a mistake I don't have to make. MODS - this is not OT as they're 4x4. Wrap a rope around the bumper and you've got a challenge truck. 2

It doesn’t have enough build points to retain the VIN - apart from the chassis and suspension scoring only 7 of the required 8 points, the chassis has had significant structural alteration, which disqualifies it. Unfortunate, but a case of buyer beware. Could be a good project for someone who doesn’t mind doing the IVA stuff, or if they are willing to return the chassis to “close enough to standard” and refit one more original spec mechanical assembly (axles, steering or transmission). I do wish vendors would stop misapplying the term “barn find”.

Happyoldgit
I can't quite make out why you would want to rechassis a 2011 Puma unless the original was shot or it had been damaged... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134359569257?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=cjq2iaAyTXa&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=jLRA-yuqR3S&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Retroanaconda
Sadly ten years is easily enough time for the original to rot out in some circumstances.
Gazzar
I've seen them with a lot of corrosion. Still see this as the biggest reason why the defender lost out to the competition.

Yep. I suppose that's the result of the improved corrosion resistant materials JLR boasted about when I queried why the early Puma I bought new in 2007 had just a thin coat of black paint and no wax on the chassis. I suppose "Refurbished onto a Galvanised chassis with a plan for a long term relationship by its current owner. Alas plans have changed.." Is their way of saying the original chassis was like a pair of net curtains in places. Edited January 7, 2023 by Happyoldgit Sorting format ...failed.
