oneandtwo
Came across this P reg 300tdi 90 in use on a farm today, thought it might be of interest. Luckily the bonnet wasn't latched properly so I had to have a peek underneath to see how it worked! The under bonnet tubing and u bend appear to be from an old bath. Tanuki
Provided it doesn't exceed some local dB levels, and it doesn't point directly at pedestrians, it's probably lehal!

CwazyWabbit
so how do you lift the bonnet, probably just lift the silencer off.....
Ally V8
No sign of a tax disc so I guess its just used on the farm - Good, having a second useful life and being adapted with whats hanging around. The way it always was done and as long as its safe, none the worse for it. None of the new Transit engined junk is ever going to last long enough to be useful in this way - unless you can find a TDI engine to retrofit. And to be frank I cant see any reason for it not to be road legal if it was to be taxed and put on the road. CwazyWabbit
Loads of defenders round me like that, simple and it works. Do they get problems with filling up with water if left standing for a long while?
landroversforever
Needs a tractor flapper
Markoteal
Ah - that's what's meant by a "straight non cat front pipe" !
landroversforever
Known as a 'straight-through' (bonnet)
heath robinson
I have a feeling that for an mot the exhaust has to exit behind the rearmost side window, in addition to not pointing up pedestrian's noses etc.
Aragorn
in terms of "keeping it running with whats knocking around" i dont see why you'd have gone to the effort of hacking up that complete mess. The same silencer box welded onto the normal downpipe and exiting under the floor would surely have worked just as well, and not looked ridiculous. The heat from the exhaust is also running very close to that 90 degree boost hose, which WILL fail given time. If he wanted to replicate a tractor stack for aesthetic reasons then i can sort of understand it, but if your doing something for aesthetics you wouldnt have made it look so awful! muddy
Normally a 3-5mm hole is drilled at the lowest point to let water out. Most of the ones I know are registered as tractors etc, the cow **** doesn't get to them quite as quickly this way.
