gadget
I've just got back from trundling around France and Spain in my Discovery and whilst out and about i've seen 4 other TD5 Discoverys. Lots of 200 and 300 TDI Discoverys but only 4 other TD5 Discoverys. Was the TD5 not popular in mainland europe?
Tanuki
Many European countries still have old-style vehicle-tax rules based on engine-size-and-a-multiplier-for-turbocharging. In the 1980s/1990s Land-Rover were selling MPi Discoveries fitted with the 1998cc petrol-engine to Europe because it was less-than-2000cc and fitted into a cheaper tax-class. Now Europe has tax-classes based on CO2-emissions. Here in the UK anything with a TD5 is in the highest-tax bracket, and is not Euro-5 emissions-compliant so is prohibited from driving in many cities. gadget
Is the Discovery 3/4 EU5 compliant? There where quite a few of those knocking about too. I also saw local Defenders of many varieties right up to the TDCI, but again no locally registered TD5.
