need4speed
Just been having a quick look at how im going to wire my Bosch alternator up. Looking at RAVE it shows a Brown wire going to starter motor. It also shows a Brown/Yellow going to instrument pack and a Green/Yellow going to a header. I have attached a pic (sorry for the rubbish quality) showing what i actually have at the back of my alternator. You can see that on the 2-pin plug, only 1 pin is utilised? On the alternator there is a B+ which i presume is the Brown to starter? There is also a W and D+. The W appears to be used but the D+ is not. Im not sure what the W and D+ are for. Im making a guess that W is the dash warning light and D+ is for a tacho signal?
western
this should help W = rev counter signal [tacho] connection B+ = main output from alt to battery/starter D+ = charge warning light
need4speed
Thats great. Thanks Ralph
Aragorn
Its surprising that D+ isnt used, as most alternators use the d+ line to excite the field coils. Looking at your pic, the connection thats present is in the D+ point is it not?
need4speed
No. Remember im holding the connector upside down in the pic.... Also, D+ will be getting used as i will be connecting the dash warning light to it.
Aragorn
its upside down in two dimensions though.... Look at where the locating tag is in relation to the tag on the alternator. It wouldnt make any sense for it to have only W in its original application.
