elmscroft
Hi All, Not too familar with the Td4 engine, but here goes. A Friend has a Freelander 1 2004, 70,000 miles Td4, and it has started to push black smoke under hard acceleration i.e. overtaking, but is fine the rest of the time. power seems ok. I've suggested checking the air filter and are waiting to hear back. Has anyone else suffered this problem or may have any pointers. Anything much appreciated. Thanks Mike
Tanuki
Smoke implies that there's air being measured by the MAF (and so an amount of fuel appropriate to this volume of air is being injected) but this air's not reaching the engine. Check for split/delaminated/detached air-hoses between the turbo and the engine.
elmscroft
Hi, Thanks Tanuki, he didn't see split at first, as it was on the underside, right on the bend. New pipe fitted, all sorted. Thank You.
