il-bob
Hello, Currently we're in the process of changing from 300 Tdi to 4.6 V8, and from manual to auto on our tray backed Range. Engine and box are already in place, We're moving the radiator to the back whilst in it. I need 3 oil coolers, one for the gbox, steering and engine. I read that Laminova are great, but I don't fancy water cooled once. So, how am I going to choose which oil coolers I need? Preferably, all 3 have the same thread so if one gives up, I can simply bypass by a ready made hose with fittings. What do you suggest? Some pics below... Team Idris
The ones we sell at work Seriously though, we have the same oxford style cooler that everyone sells. Maybe the Setrab ones are a bit better, but are a bit dearer? The rest come out of china, but they all do this sort of low pressure stuff very well. The design goes back to the 70's so it is well sorted. 16 row is fine as far as I can tell. Without the kW to be dissipated you are guessing anyway? A good fan cowl with a good fan is vital to pull air through the fins evenly. Because the ports come out one side you can bolt two end to end and have one single larger fan. We do this in our product range with AC fans and it works well. For threads I'd pick 1/2" bsp? 3/4" seems a bit big? Which is why 5/8" is a 'car' size. Personally I'd put the engine oil cooler in the front to keep the lines short. In some ways the laminova is the better unit for engine oil cooling, but it puts the heat load onto the rad. If I was road I'd cool the oil with rad water. If I was winch challenge I'd go oxford cooler. And if all three oxford coolers go in to the back, I might be tempted to bolt them into a triangle shape and blow air up the middle? I drew it up once and it looked okay. It works on the theory that fans try to centrifuge air anyway. http://www.camauto.com/oil-cooler-kit
tacr2man
Depends what your budget is , Mocal are agood name , I had a 13row on my 110V8 for 20odd yrs , as good as the day it was fitted . I have used these for trans oil cooling they are cheap and work well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shogun-Pajero-Exceed-2-5TD-mk2-oil-cooler-engine-/310317646174?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item48405f815e if not mounted at front then just fit a lecky fan off a scrap car , if you want fit a temp controlled switch to switch fan . The heat exchanger type help the auto oil to get to operating temp a bit quicker , but you need a decent size rad to handle the heat load if operating in extreme conditions.
