Guest MJG
Jan got nailed a couple of weeks ago after letting a carpark ticket expire in a short stay car park. Ticket expired 10 mins and sure enough the amoeba in the peaked cap was in there with a ticket. Our local Council allows you to pay parking fines 'on line' but when I tried at the weekend their system woudn't accept payment saying "there is no outstanding penalty associated with this parking notice" Strange - I knew it hadn't been paid so I rang the local parking office today. Seems the ticket has had to be revoked by the jobsworths manager because the idiot put the wrong location of the 'offence' into his little machine!!!!! Get in there....... So I say PS shows it pays to check any parking tickets for such errors as I had't spotted it so I was relying on the honesty of this guys supervisor - at least he did his job properly. Andy
result there then, well done for not noticing yourself either
dred90
I always contest these fines before paying.. That's what they want you to do give in quickly and pay up. Appealing against parking and bus lane fines is free and time consuming for the council , so far I've won 4 lost 1.
freeagent
just shows the sort of simpletons they employ.... its always worth contesting it if you think you might have a chance.... my mum got off one last year as she took my Gran out shopping, and accidentally put her disabled badge upside down in the windscreen... and got a ticket for it... the council let her off it, but told her not to do it again...... the wardens are on performance related pay, so will ticket EVERYTHING in the hope people wont contest it. BogMonster
I got away with a parking ticket while on holiday a few years ago. Was staying at a place where parking on the road needed resident voucher parking, I had the daily voucher (cost £1 a day) but I had been for a spin with the windows down and it had blown off the dash and landed in the passenger footwell. Of course I forgot to check it was there ... parked back at the guest house and got a ticket.... you COULD see the voucher but it wasn't very obvious! I was leaving a day or two later so I wrote a hand written note to the county council or whoever it said on the back of the ticket using a lot of words that had F and B in them, enclosing the ticket and a cheque for the £30 and saying that it was daylight robbery, and I'd gladly see them in court but for the fact I was leaving the country in 2 days and had no intention of cancelling my £500 flight to fight a poxy parking ticket, that they ought to try and introduce an eyesight test for their employees etc etc etc. For a couple of pages. Cheque never got cashed so I think somebody took the point
Jen
the wardens are on performance related pay Not strictly true, since the Council's took over the parking attendants (Decriminalised parking) hardly any are on performance related pay, indeed as an example ours aren't. But it is worth contesting, not just on the ticket, but look at the lines/signs and legal order. It's so hard to keep everyting up to date there's bound to be something missing/tarmaced over/worn out. If you need any advice you know where I am! As an aside, please don't be these people that park in stupid places though... last week we had a chap who parked on an area designated no parking/loading. What was the problem? Eastleigh high street completely obstructed for 35min whilst he colected his pension check tailbacks/lorries and chaos on the surrounding roads, he only just got there before the flat bed! Needless to say, the majority of yellow lines and restrictions are there for a reason (all the one's in my area anyway!), usually related to safety or traffic flow. And before you all start, no, I'm not a traffic warden - I'm a traffic management and road safety officer B)
little nay
blimey jen, don't tell them that, they will all be after you! i got a ticket because one of my wheels was touching the white line that marked ou the parking bay. i wasn't outside the bay but touching the boundry.... mind you the guy next to me proved that a ford escort takes up alot of room! i was not a happy bunny! jules
While were talking about eastleigh high street. Will I be able to park in the high street and walk to the stones (pub) or are the paving gang (that wouldn't know health and safety if it beat one over the head with a shovel) going to randomly close it again and how long does it take to pave a few parking spaces and 100m stretch of road. And What is happening with the speed humps and when is the evil caneval show so you can put some tarmac between them and I will not need Low ratio to get over them. your truly a local

There's been 30minutes waiting on the high street for ages - so I guess it depends how long you want to be in the pub! I'd suggest using the 2hr ltd waiting in the surrounding roads or getting a friend to buy some visitors parking permits for you. Oh, and the high street works weren't just paving... scary amount of drainage works, finding old bombs and digging up bunkers surrounding remodelling Leigh Road! Luckily that's nothing to do with me! Phew! What is happening with the speed humps and when is the evil caneval show so you can put some tarmac between them and I will not need Low ratio to get over them. Mm. Not good is it. I can't drive along that road in my mini anymore Contractors, always a problem. And luckily - nothing to do with me! God I'm getting good at this Council slopey shoulders thing!
