200 TDi Alternators

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

I'm after some advice please. Having physically fitted my split charge system some weeks ago, I had a free hour or so today and thought I'd finish wiring in the trigger. All that I've read suggests that the best place to hook into the wiring is on the back of the alternator. (The wire that causes the warning indicator to go out I believe). Great thinks I, pops the bonnet and grinds to a halt, cos I can't get at the back of the alternator to to get the connector out to splice in the new feed. ;)

HTF do I get to it, ideally without taking half the engine apart? Alternatively where else can I pick up a feed that's only live when the engine is running. (Not just when the key's turned to the accessory position)
