Disco lt77 into a Defender

Hi as per title really I can get hold of a good Discovery lt77 to replace my whining, Leaking, and a pain to get in gear Defender LT77. but will it fit or what do I need to do to make it fit its on a 200tdi.

Also whilst I am at it is it worth putting the 1.2 transfer box in I don't do towing so that's not a problem but I do have 35 inch mud tyres. Will I lose much acceleration with the 1.2 box.

Thanks in advance.

Can't comment on the LT77 box fitting but I would say with 35" muds you're going to find it very hard to accelerate in anything above 3rd gear unless you're at valve popping revs. I fitted a discovery transfer box to my 110 with 265/75 16's and it made a difference to top speed but its really left me needing to change gears a lot around town, and I have a full width intercooler, raised the boost and adjusted the pump.

Hope that helps

Mat

First make sure it is the box, rather than clutch, check out the LT77 FAQs on Ashcrofts site: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=217

Then.... no, basically without stripping the LT77 boxes down to swap some of the internals about, you can't put the disco box easily in the defender as the gear stick will be in the seat box somewhere.

And as for 1.2 on 35" tyres, no way, far too high a gearing, 1.4 or even 1.6 if you like to make progress on the back roads. To get stock gearing equivalents, I seem to remember compared to the original 29" tyre and a 1.2 box on my RRC, 1.4 for 33" and 1.66 for 35".
