P38 Paul
hi there , can anyone advise me on a gearbox problem that i have ? when i used to start the car from hot or cold , the engine will slow down for a split second when i selected a gear & then run ok which i would of said was normal , but recently when i select a gear it slows down so far that it sometimes stalls , i did'nt think you could stall an automatic . has anyone had the same problem ? any ideas would be a great help , cheers , Paul . bishbosh
Not heard that one before. Try giving Ashcrofts a call. Usually very helpful.
poohbear
It could be an idle problem rather than gearbox - does a similar thing happen when you load the engine up with heated screen, seats aircon etc?

P38 Paul
hi people , the car is a p38 diesel , also there is no noticable change when the engine is loaded , & the car drives as it should with very smooth gear changes in both hi & low ratio . its just from neutral to drive or neutral to reverse that the engine shudders the revs drop & sometime stalls . it sound like it needs an adjustment to stop the drag to me , can these gear boxes be adjusted at all ? thanks for all the usefull advise & any more advise that you can give me . elbekko
Sounds more like the engine can't keep the idle up, I'd guess the injection pump to be the culprit, but could as well be a sensor.
