Keeper96
Hi My 1989 defender 90 has Notchy steering and won't self centre, I think this could be a seizing UJ but have also been told to check the top swivel joints. What are you opinions? Also will it be on railko bushes or bearings? Cheers
western
give the column UJ's a squirt of oil, something like 3 in 1 or last time I used PAS fluid.then see how it feels. a 1989 vehicle will have railko bushes as my '89 110 does. Keeper96
Cheers, I took the UJ off and it was completely seized in one direction if you know what I mean, going to try freeing it but for the price will probably just replace. Thanks for the info on the bushes. Do you know if they can be converted to bearings and if so is it worth doing? Cheers
missingsid
Don't try to repair/clean the UJs as it will just sieze again! I was amazed at how much it affected my steering even with PS.
western
as above bin the siezed joint & fit a new one, as for the swivels only way to change to bearing is by fitting the correct housing from 300tdi vehicles.
