prop lengths?

Recommended Posts

Yes I have googled and so far I have a non conclusive list. So I'm trying to figure where to put my t-box (ibex 118" wheelbase) with the best chance of using standard props. On to what I need is some measurements from flange face to flange face with the truck on it's wheels preferably at standard hight but up to a 2" lift is fine. Now I'm quite happy for the measurement to be a quick throw a tape alongside it job but can we keep to metric, front and rear of any coil sprung land rover up to and including td5 and possibly p38 (if a grown up can confirm the flanges are the same).

I have early td 90/110 and 200tdi disco (i believe all disco and range rovers have the same front/rear lengths except LSE and borgwarner but again confirmation would be good).

Thanks in advance for any contributions I will turn this into a list for the tech section.

Hi Mike,

I have measured the fleet and the dimensions are as follows:

Defender 200TDi 90, standard height springs, standard arms

Front 667mm

Rear 667mm

Defender TD5 90, some sort of lift, maybe 2 inch, X arms

Front 627mm

Rear 712mm

Range Rover classis 3.9EFi, I believe they are standard springs, but not sure

Front 688mm

Rear 885mm

Lengths I have are:

Defender

Td/200tdi: 90 front 667 rear 667, 110 front 667 rear 1055

300tdi: none

Td5: 90 front 627 rear 712, 110 none

Tdci: 90 front 700 rear 650, 110 none

V8: none

All engines: 130 none

Disco 1

200tdi: front 637 rear 887 (i believe all discos are the same possible exception of td5 auto need confirmation)

Range rover

V8 Borg warner: front 688 rear 885

VM: none

LSE: none

P38: none

Please anyone that can use a tape measure and can spare 5mins It would be good to have a definitive list for everyone to see.

Thanks mike

Defender 300tdi and TD5's should be the same.

Your D1 Front prop is the same part as a defender 300/td5 front prop.

Theres a big list here showing which shafts are shared between which models, they are closed lengths, hence are a little lower than your measurements:

I guess so, i just meant to help you fill in your table you could use that chart and link up the common shafts.

Also, you should be able to see a pattern form between installed length and closed length, and from that be able to figure out roughly what closed length you want for a given working length!

There is a bit of a pattern but it seems to be non consistent also the Devon link lists a 200tdi 90 as having different lengths front and rear when they appear to be the same length in use. I know there's a phase issue but that's just pull the spline section and clock it, except tdci that uses balls not splines on the front at least. All I'm trying to do is build a list that is all directly comparable as the list I have is meaningless when some measurements are working, open or closed. I didn't think I'd get much help if I asked for closed lengths mind the weather hasn't helped much either.

Thanks mike

finally i have a fairly good list for coil sprung land rovers. All measurement are approx standard working length flange to flange:

defender
4 cyl/200tdi: 90 front 667 rear 667 110 rear 1055 130 rear 1480
300tdi/ td5 upto 02: 90 front 627 rear 712 110 rear 1080 130 rear 1520
post 02 td5 rover rear axle: 90 front 627 rear 712 110 rear 1170 130 rear 1600
V8: 90 front 627 rear 712 110 rear 1080 130 rear 1520

tdci: 90 front 700(bearing slip joint phasing can't be changed) rear 650 110 rear 1110 130 rear 1540

discovery I/II

all: front 637(td5 double carden) rear 887

range rover classic

V8 borg warner t-box: front 688 rear 885

LSE: front 637 rear 1080

V8/VM/200/300tdi: front 637 rear 887

hope this helps others if any are incorrect let me know.

Doesn't seem quite right, the RRC 300TDi with BW box has a different (front?) length from the D1 300TDi with LT230.

Old thread, but I was looking up the differences for a project.

As far as I know, all late RRCs had BW units.  Certainly the case for 300Tdi, but I thought 200s and contemporary V8s had them.  RangeRoverClassic.com claims the BW was fitted even to VM powered cars from Oct 89 onwards.
