mike4444244
hi my new antenna mount is a through-body type, ie you drill a 10mm hole in the bodywork to fit it, it came with 2 plastic moulded washers that look like they sandwich the body in between, I assume the are weatherproofing/cosmetic, I am mounting mine on the wing so don't need them to be waterproof, my wing top is too thick to use them so can I just fit it through the wing and have it in electrical contact with body or does it need insulating from the body? Happyoldgit
Centre core of the co-ax is connected to the antenna itself and should be insulated from body, outer core of co-ax is connected to body by one means or another depending on type of antenna. Snagger
I'd need to see a photo to know whether those washers insulate the antenna or not, but the antenna itself must not earth to the body - only the lower mounting and outer braid of the cable should do that. mike4444244
ok thanks guys looks like I need to cut a bigger hole in the tread plate! yes there's a plastic washer thing that has an insert thing that goes down the hole to insulate it from the wing Cheers mike
