pgrbff
My wipers have developed a mind of their own, intermittent doesn't work, won't switch off etc. I'm guessing it's the relay but I'm not sure where the relay is. There is a large red relay tie-wrapped in the fuse box above the transmission tunnel. Is that where it is normally found? Is it normally tie wrapped on? CwazyWabbit
When you replace the relay you can fit a VW one that will give you variable intermitant wipe if you like.

pgrbff
Unfortunately I have already ordered the original Lucas part. I would like to know where the relay is though? I did search "wiper relay" but had no hits, which did seem strange.
western
should sit behind the fusebox metal panel.

western
as to fixing it in place, the normal way is to slide it on to one of the relay tabs along the bottom of the metal panel, same as the other relays.
pgrbff
If it's the one I think it is it seems bigger than the other two which from memory are on the R/H side and seem to be in their original position. The larger relay is on its side and held in place with a cable tie on the L/H side. I'll take a pic tomorrow. Someone has installed an immobiliser, Cobra?, that does nothing useful. If you don't disarm it before starting the ignition none of the warning lights come on as expected except a faint glow from the charging light. If you do disarm it the warning lights work as they should. Armed or disarmed the car will start anyway.
