1800phil
I have a defender 90 2.5 diesel which is difficult to select gears. It goes into gear fine but 2nd into 3rd is a bit tricky as the gears all seem really close. The guy I brought the vehicle off told me all it needed was a new gear selector which could be fitted from inside the vehicle by removing gear stick gator to gain access. Does any one know if it's that simple.
western
the main gear lever turret can be swapped without any major gearbox stripping. the turret is item 1 in http://lrcat.com/#31/4/53520
Landowner
:)could be just the springs and broken bracket, easy fix
1800phil
Is this just a case of stripping from gear lever down to find out what's worn?
western
yes, might just be a broken bias spring, which makes selecting 2,3 difficult

1800phil
Hi only just round to having a look, the spring is ok but where it sits either side of the turret it's badly worn on the right hand side. When you but it in reverse the spring ends up sitting in a worn grove and not on the adjuster bolt. Do you think this would make gear selection difficult ???? 1800phil
It's ok I've sort it,gear lever housing worn both sides, spring getting caught FRC7155.

1800phil
These pics might help if you think your having same problem. End of spring has worn a grove in both sides of the housing, making the spring stick and not sit on adjuster bolt.
