neil3728
I have a white 110 with a lot of checker plate on it which is not painted. I am thinking of painting the checker plate a dark color as a contrast. I have been looking around but can't find any examples to look at apart from one where the checker plate is black. I can't decide between Blue, red or green for the checker plate Has anyone seen a car with this done before or any pictures I can use as a reference. I know it won't be to everyone's liking but I like the white body i', just looking for a little contrast.
mikeslandy
I think you will need to etch prime it first or the paint wont get a proper key.
Boydie
You would be best to remove the checker plate and have it powder-coated, or if you really want to do it yourself etch prime it first and then apply the final top coat and possibly a clear coat. Powder-coating isnt expensive and gives a longer lasting and far better finish.
jumping jack
Best remove it and see what it's hiding.
Anderzander
I've only seen black or silver checker plate .....
neil3728
Going to do all the prep and painting while they are on the car. Eventually the car will be getting a whole new paint job so this is really a short term solution. Just something to tidy it up at the moment
Orgasmic Farmer
Takes seconds to drill out the rivets to remove, and not much longer to put back on. I etch primed mine and sprayed with rattle cans. 2 years on and still looks fine (did mine matt black though)
Yostumpy
I just washed mine, left to dry, then painted matt black (blackboard paint) but it was too solid, too much of a contrast with the white. So I set to with a sander, and polished off the 'tops' of the x-plate bars, back to silver,.It gave it a totally different appearance, and it now looks 'gunmetal'. Its peeling off a bit now, but it did only have one quick thin coat, and it was 5 years ago.
