It could be that your alternator failed and that you were running on your battery power until that went flat, no power, no electrical supply to the fuel valve - engine failure. First up test your battery, if its flat you have the solution, have your alternatore tested, if its kaput, replace it, recharge your battery and away you go.

After a few hours the car starts and runs fine but radio and clock reset themselves so it looks like I have had a break in the circuit somewhere but checked main earth and live connection and seem fine so I'm at a bit of a loss now
