Kierran.M.110
I have just finished rebuilding my 1989 110 hardtop which had an iveco 2.5 turbo engine fitted before I got it. Now that I have started driving it I feel that the engine has more to give and doesn't currently have an intercooler. It's using a full width radiator that I think would have been used for petrol engines, my problem is which intercooler would I be able to fit with this radiator or would I have to change to a 300 tdi type radiator and intercooler. Puffernutter
My 110 was originally fitted with a 19J and I had an Allisport intercooler fitted (IIRC) in front of the engine radiator. Performance was improved and engine cooling wasn't affected. In fact I eventually fitted a 200Tdi and removed the engine driven fan totally! Kierran.M.110
I have been looking at a few intercoolers over the last few days and I may not be able to use one in front of the rad as I have a winch that is set back into the grill so space there is limited. I also have another head ache which is that on a 200/300tdi the turbo is on the passenger side where as on the iveco engine the turbo is on the drivers side making the pipe work a bit tricky unless I put the intercooler on the drivers side and the radiator on the passenger side that way there is plenty of room for pipe work. Retroanaconda
Use a Tdi radiator/intercooler setup and just switch the positions in the frame. It's how it's done in a Mazda SL35Ti conversion which also has the turbo/exhaust on the driver's side, as seen here (poor photo - but you can get the idea from the air pipe going across to driver's side): What are your plans for exhaust routing? Kierran.M.110
Well the engine is already in and has been for a number of years the problem is an intercooler was never fitted when it was done. The exhaust has plenty of room to go down and runs along the chassis rail and crosses behind the transfer box and joins to the last 2 sections of a defender system . I'm away from home at the min so I can't get any right pictures for you
