Tim Kirkus
My 2002 TD5 Defender has recently stopped starting easily when cold. She goes eventually with clouds of grey smoke from the exhaust and then is fine for the rest of the day. She turns over, has a new battery and fuel pump, the ECU has been looked at by the local garage and I don't think there's air in the system. Oddly, she seems to start perfectly at sea level. We're at 1700 metres - could this be relavent? I've seen other posts that suggest altitude is automatically catered for but I'm running out of ideas. Any thoughts? Many thanks. Tim. Tanuki
Injector seals? One of the symptoms of my TD5's injector-seal failure was that it took ages of cranking to start. A healthy TD5 should start on the second revolution of the engine, unless you're talking about significantly below-zero temperatures. Tim Kirkus
Thanks, Tanuki. Are the seals something that a newbie like me can sort out?
Divster
Tanuki, A step by step guide here; http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Injector%20Seals.html It can be done without the LR tool and a heel bar will suffice if used carefully
