dantastic
I'm sorry if this has been covered already but I have one of the 41.5" LED light bars from one of the group buys. I was wondering about the legality of it out on the continent? Are they legal or are they even allowed to be fitted to the vehicle?
FridgeFreezer
In my experience, on the continent the phrase you need is "It's legal in the UK"
Scotts90
If it's "CE" marked then I'd imagine it's been approved?
henk
I have also one of these large ones from the group buy and no problems here in Belgium with the MOT, neither on the road in Holland or Germany
tacr2man
The only real problem is its intended usage , you cant have it lit on the road in place of dipped headlights , and you can only have two of those , other than with fog lights in relevant conditions. Main beam ? is it suitable for that ? eg adequate range . You can have as many lights on the vehicle as you want .
henk
I only use it offroad, for sure not in city centres and neither on the péréferique around Paris
elbekko
Haven't had any troubles with mine.
dantastic
So that's neither a yes or a no but rather - it's fine. Good enough I suppose
simonr
My research (as a previous seller of roof lights) found that you can fit what you like. If it's switched off - it's effectively just luggage! You can connect it to your main beam - to come on with your headlight main beams, but it must have an isolator switch so your headlamps can be used on their own. elbekko
I have it on a completely separate switch, can even be used with the ignition off.
mickeyw
I think it would fall into the same criteria as high wattage spot lights. They are normally sold "for off road use only", so what you do with it is up to you, but the product is not sold with any suggestion that it might be legal to use on the public highway. As Si said, having them bolted to the car is not an issue. However if you choose to blind an oncoming traffic or a cop car I would expect to find yourself in trouble. Unless it happens to be one of the BMW drivers who has not figured out that you CAN drive on low beam - or indeed what the indicators are for! Then you get a medal! Boydie
I have a 42" unit mounted above the windscreen on the roofrack, compliant with New South Wales (Australia) regs. it will only operate with the headlights on high beam and with one exception I've only ever used it when I've been off road. That one exception .... coming up a steepish hill I was blinded by a similar bar light on a facing vehicle, "right, smart arse, I thought" and hit my high beam and flicked on the LED bar light and fully illuminated a highway patrol cop booking a wayword motorist ........ megga ooops killed the light and hit the go fast peddle
