guyadawson
Hi Does anyone have any experience of fitting a Webasto, or similar, coolant heater into a 300TDI RRC? Any hints and tips gratefully received. Regards Guy
rrr47
You don't say which model your fitting, I assume it's their pre-heater. Make sure the outlet from the heater is near the thermostat.
guyadawson
So far, I haven't decided on a make or model. I just fancy something to warm the car before I get in on a winter morning. So far, I am learning toward the Webasto thermotop c, with a timer. I guess what I'm really asking is has anyone successfully fitted such a thing, and if so, which one. Also, where abouts in the engine bay is the best location.
rrr47
My sister lives in Canada and they use them out there, even if the car is in a garage. You would see many cars and pick-ups with a 110v plug sticking out of the bonnet for the heater. You may not need a timer if you use an extension lead and just switch it on about halve an hour before you go out to the car. The electric pre-heaters are quiet small so location is not a problem on a Range Rover.
guyadawson
I once visited northern Norway, and the hotel had a power point for each parking bay. However, I sometimes have to park across the street, so electric is out.
Snagger
I have a Kenlowe Hotstart elecric preheater on my 109. It's only useful at home. If you have the means, a Webasto is much better.
Ex Member
Greatest invention ever. Plumb it into the heater supply line. make sure it low enough that air can not get trapped in the Webasto. I prefer controlling using a wireless relay. Much more convenient than a timer. Turn it on 15 minutes before you leave and you will have a warm car. It is also "best" to put in a separate fuel line to the tank if you can as this avoids any possible fuel supply problems.
guyadawson
How low is low enough? I found some install instructions on the Webasto website gives 6 inches as the minimum head, but the Defender Webasto install thread on here seems to show the heater mounted on the inner wing, which seems a little close.
