chris2010
What are people opinions on winches Been offered a husky 8 winch , New motor fitted . Albright solenoid on steel cable No power cables or remotes £300 I have a 9.5 tds goldfish on front at minute Can't afford 8274 routes atm What do you think good deal or bad ? And would it be a case of move the tds to the rear ?
landroversforever
The Husky is a good, solid winch. Commercial stuff so its well built and probably slightly underrated. These days they are old technology and slow. That said however, one is going in the rear of my 90.... but that's not going to be a serious challenge motor. MuddyWinny
Strangely I have a Husky 8 at the front and have been looking at replacing it with a goldfish. I'm not expert but this is what I have found. I have found the Husky to be reliable but I'm still using the original motor which is why it is probably a little slow (although this doesn't worry me) and when fitted to a standard bumper it reduces the approach angle somewhat. I believe it is also rather heavy compared to other winches. I have also been told that the Husky is better mounted at the back as the worm drive makes it suitable for lowering down slopes as there is no brake to overheat and fail. For the same reason it well suited to synthetic rope. If I was looking at buying it I would price up the additional parts needed to to install it and see how that compares to the price of a new/different winch. Hopefully someone with more experience will reply but hope this helped. Mark
