Where to get g/box rebuilt or buy a recon one?

How bad is it? Does it need a full build? Symptoms? I plan to start rebuilding boxes next year - I'm building a workshop where I can set up a clean room to rebuild them. But in the meantime Ashcrofts are not far from you, and other companies advertise in the comics. Alternatively some of the snake oil additives can postpone the inevitable for a while, certainly not a long term fix, but can quieten down a bearing for a bit. I'm running my 109 on a 70,000 mile box with a noisy bearing for the last 20,000 miles with Wynns Gearbox additive, just haven't got around to fixing it, and as it's quiet now I'm able to ignore it.

I plan on using only EAC parts or genuine, if still available. I was talking to some sellers and there is quite a worry about quality components, but given the cost of genuine parts I can see why re-manufacturers cut corners. I figure that there is a small market for top quality rebuilds, all components replaced, unless as new, etc.

Thanks. Symptom: Jumps out of 1st low when going down hill while engine braking. And will do similar in 3rd high on the road.

Yeah Ashcroft are very close, but fairly sure they don't do Series boxes anymore.
